President Mirziyoyev Reviews Priority Tasks for Uzbekistan’s Automotive Industry in 2025

Tashkent, December 6, 2024 – The Europe Today: Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a presentation on December 5 to outline priority tasks for the country’s automotive industry in 2025. The session followed up on last month’s discussions, during which directives were issued for a critical review of sectoral plans.

The updated measures, presented during the meeting, emphasized increasing production volumes, improving quality, and aligning with market demand. With over 400,000 cars sold annually in Uzbekistan, rising household incomes are expected to sustain this trend, offering significant opportunities for manufacturing products tailored to consumer needs.

Localization and WTO Membership

Uzbekistan’s anticipated accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) was highlighted as a key development for the industry. WTO membership is expected to intensify competition for local manufacturers, prompting a focus on quality improvements and higher localization levels.

For 2025, the localization of 60 components for BYD electric vehicles is expected to lower production costs. BYD leadership expressed strong confidence in the capabilities of Uzbekistan’s domestic enterprises. To leverage this potential, the Localization Assistance Center will collaborate with regional enterprises to double production volumes.

Focus on Exports and Regional Markets

Export growth remains a strategic priority for the automotive sector. In recent years, over 40,000 auto kits have been exported to neighboring countries. Plans for 2025 aim to boost export revenues to over $700 million. Additionally, the President underscored the importance of advancing enterprises producing buses and trucks in Samarkand to expand into foreign markets.

Economic and Social Significance

President Mirziyoyev stressed the automotive industry’s critical economic and social roles. He called for adapting to modern market requirements, ensuring stable production, and maintaining a strong focus on marketing and product quality.

The presentation reaffirmed Uzbekistan’s commitment to fostering a competitive and innovative automotive sector, aligning with international standards while meeting the evolving needs of domestic and global markets.
