President Putin Highlights Russia’s True Elite on Heroes of the Fatherland Day

Moscow, December 10, 2024 – The Europe Today: A new generation of Russians dedicated to serving the country in both military and civilian spheres represents the true elite of the nation, President Vladimir Putin stated during a solemn ceremony at the Kremlin marking Heroes of the Fatherland Day on Monday.

During the event, Putin presented Gold Star medals to several soldiers and emphasized the importance of the leadership development program ‘Time of Heroes’. The initiative, which includes over 60 recipients of the Order of Courage and 21 Heroes of Russia, aims to foster a culture of bravery and selflessness.

“These individuals are the real – not fake, but genuine – elite and pride of the country,” Putin declared, underlining the enduring value of service to the Fatherland.

Acknowledgment of Military Valor

Putin praised the courage and reliability of Russian Armed Forces members engaged in the ongoing military operation in Ukraine. Their actions, he said, exemplify a solid foundation of values essential for both military and civilian service.

“Above all, they put service to the Fatherland and its interests,” Putin noted. “Their determination leaves no doubt that we will win. No one will be able to conquer or break Russia. We have truth, the power of arms, and the strength of spirit on our side.”

The heroism displayed by these soldiers has become a moral compass for millions of Russians in civilian life, the president added.

Broader Definition of the Russian Elite

Putin extended his recognition beyond military personnel, highlighting the contributions of defense industry workers, scientists, researchers, and artists. He praised millions of Russians across the country for their dedication to the nation’s progress.

“Everyone is united by the main thing – love for their motherland, involvement in its fate, pride in Russia and its heroes,” Putin stated.

He emphasized that the key to overcoming challenges lies in “solidarity, unity, and a strong will to win,” describing this resilience as a defining characteristic of the Russian spirit handed down through generations.

Historical Significance of Heroes of the Fatherland Day

Heroes of the Fatherland Day, established in 2007, commemorates the founding of the Order of St. George the Victorious by Empress Catherine the Great in 1769. The day serves as an opportunity to honor Russia’s heroes and reflect on their enduring legacy in shaping the nation’s identity.
