Riyadh, December 16, 2024 – The Europe Today: On Monday, Saudi Arabia announced the “Riyadh Declaration” at the 19th session of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), a global platform organized by the United Nations. The declaration, aimed at fostering inclusive, innovative, and impactful artificial intelligence (AI) for all, was made by Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Abdullah Alswaha, at the opening of the forum in Riyadh.
The forum serves as a platform to promote digital cooperation among governments, the private sector, non-profit organizations, entrepreneurs, and innovators worldwide. Minister Alswaha credited Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman for his support in making the declaration a reality.
The “Riyadh Declaration” focuses on leveraging AI technologies to enable digital access, enhance digital knowledge, and tackle global challenges while unlocking economic potential. It underscores the importance of AI in increasing digital accessibility, advancing digital literacy, promoting sustainable development, protecting the environment, improving public health, and fostering economic inclusion.
Alswaha highlighted that Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has taken a proactive stance in the field of AI. He emphasized that the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 is clear, with a strong commitment to leading global transformation in AI by setting an example for others to follow.
The declaration also addresses critical issues such as unequal access to algorithms, data, and computing resources, and the Kingdom’s efforts to enhance the fairness and reliability of AI algorithms. These efforts aim to minimize errors that could potentially harm individuals or society.
