Belarus and Russia Sign Agreement on Mutual Execution of Court Rulings

Moscow, December 19, 2024 – The Europe Today: Belarus and Russia have formalized an agreement to streamline the mutual execution of court rulings from their respective judicial systems. The accord was signed during a joint session of the Belarusian and Russian Justice Ministries in Moscow, attended by Belarusian Justice Minister Yevgeny Kovalenko, Russian Justice Minister Konstantin Chuychenko, and Dmitry Mezentsev, State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

Simplified Execution and Enhanced Guarantees

The agreement introduces an expanded and simplified procedure for enforcing rulings issued by courts of general jurisdiction. This primarily applies to cases obliging debtors to pay monetary sums to plaintiffs. It also establishes clear guarantees to protect the rights of both plaintiffs and debtors during enforcement.

Union State Treaty Implementation

The session also reviewed progress on implementing the Union State Foundation Treaty’s guidelines for 2024-2026. Discussions covered legislative harmonization in court enforcement proceedings, including unified approaches to property foreclosures for debtor entities.

Advancing Legal Cooperation

Further steps were outlined to enhance legal assistance in civil and economic cases through electronic platforms. Bilateral execution of writs of execution received special attention, highlighting the commitment to efficient cross-border judicial collaboration.

This agreement represents a significant step in strengthening legal ties between Belarus and Russia under the framework of the Union State, facilitating more efficient judicial processes and reinforcing mutual trust in legal matters.
