Turkmenistan and Malaysia Bolster Bilateral Ties with Key Agreements

Kuala Lumpur, December 19, 2024 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan and Malaysia have reinforced their bilateral relations by signing two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) during President Serdar Berdimuhamedov’s official visit to Malaysia. The agreements focus on cultural, artistic, and heritage cooperation and the development of the rubber industry alongside broader economic collaboration.

The signing ceremony took place as part of discussions held between President Berdimuhamedov and Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Perdana Putra. The high-level talks addressed a range of topics, including trade, investment, energy cooperation, higher education, tourism, and transportation.

The Turkmen delegation, led by President Berdimuhamedov, included six deputy chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers and five ministers, notably Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov. They actively engaged in discussions aimed at fostering deeper collaboration between the two nations.

To honor the Turkmen President, Prime Minister Anwar hosted an official luncheon at the Seri Perdana residence, attended by senior Malaysian officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, and Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Datuk Arminzan Mohd Ali.

Bilateral trade between Turkmenistan and Malaysia has shown remarkable growth, with mutual trade volume from January to October 2024 increasing by 74.8% to 63.28 million ringgits (13.9 million USD), compared to the same period last year.

The two sides also agreed to broaden cooperation in transportation, education, culture, tourism, and sports, placing particular emphasis on university and research exchange programs. The leaders praised the strategic potential of the newly signed agreements, viewing them as pivotal to advancing their shared goals and strengthening their partnership.
