Cairo, December 20, 2024 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister, Ali Asadov, affirmed the nation’s commitment to upholding the principles of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation and fostering deeper collaboration among member states during the 11th D-8 Summit in Cairo on Thursday.
Addressing delegates, Asadov expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan’s unanimous election as a member of the D-8. “Today, the member states, based on friendship and trustful relations with Azerbaijan, took a unanimous decision to elect our country as a member of D-8. We are grateful to all the member states for this,” he stated.
The Prime Minister emphasized Azerbaijan’s dedication to enhancing regional security and stability amidst global political tensions. “Ensuring security and stability and developing mutually beneficial cooperation in our vast region are of paramount importance,” he remarked, highlighting Azerbaijan’s geopolitical significance, robust economic potential, and modern transport infrastructure.
Positioned at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Azerbaijan plays a pivotal role in critical energy initiatives and the development of international transport corridors, Asadov noted. He also underscored the country’s active leadership in addressing global challenges through its chairmanship of major international organizations.
“Azerbaijan, along with successfully chairing a number of international organizations, contributes to solving global problems. Our country’s four-year chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement, the world’s largest organization after the UN, as well as our chairmanship of COP29, are clear indicators of Azerbaijan’s growing influence on the international arena,” he added.
The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, established in 1997, promotes development partnerships among its member states. Azerbaijan’s inclusion in the group is seen as a significant step in strengthening the organization’s capabilities and regional collaboration.
The summit concluded with a shared commitment to advancing economic cooperation and addressing pressing global issues, reinforcing the importance of multilateral engagement among D-8 member states.
