Turkmenistan and Malaysia Strengthen Partnership in Oil and Gas Sector

Kuala Lumpur, December 20, 2024 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with leaders of the Malaysian energy company Petronas Carigali during his official visit to Malaysia on Thursday. The discussions focused on advancing bilateral cooperation, assessing current achievements, and exploring new opportunities for partnership amid evolving global economic conditions, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.

Focus on Energy Collaboration

The meeting underscored the oil and gas sector as a cornerstone of Turkmenistan’s economic growth and a key area of collaboration between the two nations. Petronas’s nearly three-decade presence in Turkmenistan has significantly contributed to the development of the country’s hydrocarbon resources and the training of skilled specialists in the energy sector.

Both sides emphasized the importance of further enhancing cooperation within the fuel and energy complex, considering ongoing reforms and economic initiatives in Turkmenistan. The Malaysian company expressed gratitude for the supportive conditions provided by the Turkmen government and reaffirmed its commitment to contributing to the nation’s energy potential.

Symbolic Visit to Petronas Towers

As part of the visit, President Berdimuhamedov toured the iconic Skybridge observation bridge connecting the Petronas Towers. Standing at 451.9 meters, the Petronas Towers rank among the tallest buildings in the world, while the 58.4-meter-long Skybridge holds the distinction of being the highest two-tiered bridge globally.

This visit underscored the role of advanced technologies in architecture and urban planning, reflecting priorities outlined in Turkmenistan’s large-scale development programs. These initiatives aim to modernize infrastructure in the capital city of Ashgabat and the newly constructed city of Arkadag.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

President Berdimuhamedov expressed gratitude for the warm reception and the gift of a publication commemorating mutual high-level visits between Turkmenistan and Malaysia. Following the conclusion of his visit, the President returned to Ashgabat, where officials welcomed him and praised the successful outcomes of the trip.

The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of Turkmenistan and Malaysia to strengthening their long-term, mutually beneficial partnership, particularly in the energy sector, and exploring new avenues for collaboration in an increasingly interconnected global economy.
