Chinese and Italian Officials Highlight Commitment to Deeper Bilateral Collaboration at Report Launch

Milan, December 23, 2024 – The Europe Today: Chinese and Italian officials, along with business leaders, reaffirmed their commitment to fostering deeper collaboration and mutual prosperity during the launch ceremony of the 2024 Development Report on Chinese Enterprises in Italy, held on Friday in Milan, the capital of the Lombardy Region.

Yan Dong, President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Italy (CCCIT), emphasized the significant contributions of Chinese enterprises to Italy’s investment, taxation, and employment sectors, despite facing challenges such as protectionist policies and regulatory constraints.

Speaking at the event, Yan noted, “We hope this report will enhance mutual understanding and foster deeper bilateral cooperation.” The report offers key recommendations to improve Italy’s business environment, addressing areas such as employment, operations, and regulatory challenges.

The report, based on survey data from 92 member companies, is the first comprehensive study of Chinese businesses in Italy, detailing their operational status, contributions, and challenges.

Chinese Consul General in Milan Liu Kan praised the report as an essential resource for policymakers and business leaders. Reaffirming China’s commitment to peaceful development and mutual prosperity, Liu stated, “China stands ready to share its development opportunities with Italy and the world, safeguard global free trade, and ensure the stability of industrial and supply chains.”

Andrea Tabella, a representative from Italy’s Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, echoed this sentiment, reiterating the ministry’s commitment to stronger collaboration with the CCCIT. Tabella emphasized that the report would guide support for Chinese enterprises in Italy, unlocking new opportunities for mutual growth.

Raffaele Cattaneo, Secretary General of the Lombardy Region, highlighted the region’s strategic role in China-Italy economic relations, noting that it attracts over 50 percent of Chinese investments in Italy. He also mentioned that more than 60 percent of surveyed companies plan to expand their investments in Lombardy over the next three years.

Founded in 2021, the CCCIT is the sole officially recognized organization representing Chinese enterprises in Italy, with over 120 members across finance, telecommunications, technology, and manufacturing.

The launch event, attended by approximately 150 participants, included representatives from Chinese and Italian businesses, trade associations, and government institutions, further solidifying the importance of cooperation in driving mutual economic growth.
