Saint Petersburg, December 26, 2024 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the Informal Meeting of the Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) held in Saint Petersburg.
The high-level gathering was chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin and included the participation of President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan, President Sadyr Zhaparov of Kyrgyzstan, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the leaders reviewed the outcomes of their joint work throughout 2024 and deliberated on priority tasks to enhance multilateral cooperation in the upcoming year. Discussions highlighted the significance of fostering measures to expand intraregional trade and collaboration, emphasizing the removal of barriers to mutual trade to further economic integration.
The Heads of State exchanged views on advancing partnerships in emerging sectors, including the establishment of engineering schools, development of Internet technologies, big data, the creative economy, green energy, and peaceful nuclear energy. They also underscored the importance of implementing digital solutions to drive progress in these fields.
In addition to economic matters, the leaders addressed pressing regional and international issues, reaffirming their commitment to practical cooperation within the CIS framework to combat shared challenges and threats effectively.
The meeting concluded with a mutual determination to strengthen multifaceted partnerships and ensure the CIS remains a robust platform for addressing key issues and fostering sustainable development in the region.
