Belarusian Athletes’ Triumphs in 2024 Strengthen Nation’s Sporting Reputation: Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko

Minsk, December 27, 2024 – The Europe Today: The successful performances of Belarusian athletes in 2024 have elevated Belarus’ status in world sports, Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko stated at the National Olympic Committee award ceremony, as reported by BelTA.

“The outgoing year has shown that, despite unfair pressure and obstacles from international sports organizations, sports continue to thrive in our country. We performed well at the Paris Games though our team was curtailed. Four medals at the Olympics and seven medals at the Paralympics once again demonstrated to the world that Belarus is a sports nation,” Golovchenko remarked.

He further highlighted the achievements of Belarusian athletes at world and European championships, as well as their second-place finish in the team standings at the BRICS Games. “The successes of our athletes inspire the younger generation, while fledgling athletes have someone to look up to. The determination and perseverance of our athletes inspire all of us. We will look forward to new victories in the coming year,” the prime minister added.

Golovchenko emphasized that these successes were largely due to robust government support for sports infrastructure. “In Belarus, amazing sports complexes and world-class facilities have been built. Every year, 10 to 15 large sports facilities and dozens of sports grounds are put into operation. In 2024, an international-standard swimming pool was commissioned, the Traktor Stadium opened after renovations, and sports and recreation centers were built in Dzerzhinsk, Lepel, and Slonim. In general, our country has created excellent opportunities for every person to play sports,” he said.
