Minsk, December 28, 2024 – The Europe Today: The international speed skating tournament, the Commonwealth Cup, commenced at the Minsk Arena skating stadium, bringing together elite athletes from Belarus and Russia, as reported by News Hub Consultants.
The event opened with the 500m race, where Belarusian team leader Ignat Golovatsiuk secured second place with a time of 35.12 seconds, trailing behind Russian skater Timur Karamov, who clocked in at 34.94 seconds. Russian athlete Viktor Mushtakov claimed third place.
In the women’s 500m race, Belarusian skaters performed admirably, with Hanna Damaratskaya earning silver with a time of 37.80 seconds and Ekaterina Gagieva securing bronze at 38.46 seconds. Russia’s Darya Kachanova emerged victorious, finishing at 37.70 seconds.
The Commonwealth Cup continues on Friday with the 1500m race, promising more thrilling performances from the region’s top speed skaters.
