President Xi Jinping Delivers 2025 New Year Address

Beijing, December 31, 2024 – The Europe Today: On New Year’s Eve, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered his 2025 New Year address via China Media Group and the Internet, offering heartfelt greetings to the nation and reflecting on the accomplishments of 2024 while outlining his vision for the year ahead.

In his message, President Xi expressed his best wishes for the upcoming year and celebrated the resilience and achievements of the Chinese people over the past year. “In 2024, we have journeyed through the four seasons together, experiencing both challenges and triumphs. These moments, filled with shared effort, highlight how extraordinary this year has been,” he said.

Xi emphasized China’s robust economic recovery, noting the nation’s GDP for the year is set to exceed 130 trillion yuan, marking a significant achievement in the nation’s economic resilience. “Grain output has surpassed 700 million tons, ensuring that Chinese bowls are filled with more domestic grain,” he added. Furthermore, Xi pointed to the ongoing efforts in coordinated regional development, rural revitalization, and the advancement of green, low-carbon initiatives as key achievements.

In terms of technological advancements, President Xi highlighted groundbreaking developments, including China’s production of over 10 million new energy vehicles for the first time, as well as major strides in artificial intelligence, quantum communications, and integrated circuits. He also celebrated China’s successful space missions, including the Chang’e-6 lunar probe and the opening of the Antarctic Qinling Station.

Reflecting on his travels across the country, Xi shared personal anecdotes of his visits, from the Huaniu apples in Gansu to the vibrant communities in Yinchuan, underscoring his commitment to addressing the people’s concerns regarding jobs, healthcare, and education. “We have raised basic pensions, reduced mortgage rates, and expanded direct settlement for medical bills across provinces,” he noted, reaffirming the government’s dedication to improving the livelihoods of citizens.

Xi also recognized China’s growing international influence, as the country actively contributes to global peace, governance reform, and solidarity among the Global South. “We have made significant advances in Belt and Road cooperation, and our voice is being heard at global forums like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS, and G20,” he stated.

Looking to the future, Xi reaffirmed the country’s commitment to deepening reforms and advancing Chinese modernization. “In 2025, we will fully complete the 14th Five-Year Plan, with a focus on high-quality development, technological self-reliance, and sustained economic growth,” he said. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed confidence that, through hard work, China would continue to overcome difficulties and grow stronger.

Highlighting the importance of social welfare, Xi vowed to ensure that the aspirations of the people for a better life—through good education, quality healthcare, and ample opportunities—are fulfilled. “We must work together to build a harmonious society and resolve the real issues facing our people,” he emphasized.

On the 25th anniversary of Macao’s return to China, Xi reiterated China’s commitment to the “One Country, Two Systems” policy, ensuring the long-term prosperity and stability of both Hong Kong and Macao. He also reaffirmed China’s resolve regarding Taiwan, stating, “We Chinese on both sides of the Taiwan Straits belong to one family, and no one can sever our kinship or stop China’s reunification.”

Concluding his address, Xi called for global cooperation in addressing the challenges of an increasingly complex world, stating, “We must rise above conflict and estrangement with a broad vision, working together to create a better future for humanity.” He expressed hope that in the new year, “our great country enjoys harmony and prosperity,” and wished all citizens a year of happiness and peace.
