HCM City’s Master Plan Unveiled: A Bold Vision for a Dynamic and Global Future

HCM City, January 5, 2025 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính announced the master planning scheme for Ho Chi Minh City (HCM City) during a conference on Saturday, outlining an ambitious vision for the 2021-2030 period with a forward-looking strategy extending to 2050.

PM Chính emphasized that implementing this planning scheme is not just the responsibility of HCM City but a shared task for the entire nation and region. Approved on December 31, 2024, the plan aims to transform HCM City into a global, innovative, and compassionate hub.

The city aspires to lead in the green economy, digital economy, and digital society, establishing itself as a national center for economy, finance, trade, education, and culture while achieving global recognition in Southeast Asia.

Key targets for 2030 include an annual gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth rate of 8.5-9%, a per capita GRDP of $14,800–15,400, and a 40% contribution of the digital economy to GRDP. By 2050, the population is expected to grow to 14.5 million, with urbanization surpassing 90%.

PM Chính outlined the city’s master plan, which includes two development corridors, three sub-regions, and a multi-center spatial structure. He stressed the need to leverage growth drivers like exports and investments while pioneering sustainable initiatives, including green and circular economies.

Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyễn Văn Nên reaffirmed the city’s commitment to sustainable development, aligning efforts with national resolutions to meet long-term goals.
