Pornpawee Chochuwong Shines in BWF India Open 2025, Reaches Women’s Singles Semi-Finals

New Delhi, January 18, 2025 – The Europe Today: Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong stunned third seed Han Yue of China with a straight-sets victory (21-17, 21-16) to secure her place in the semi-finals of the US$950,000 BWF India Open 2025 on Friday.

The World No. 12 displayed exceptional form at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, becoming the only Thai player remaining in the tournament. Pornpawee will face sixth-seeded Tomoka Miyazaki of Japan in the semi-finals. Miyazaki advanced after her opponent, Wang Zhiyi of China, retired due to an injury following a 16-21 defeat in the first game of their quarter-final match.

Disappointments for Thai Teams

While Pornpawee soared, other Thai players exited the competition. The mixed doubles pair of Ruttanapak Oupthong and Jhenicha Sudjaipraparat fell to Malaysian third seeds Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei (16-21, 17-21). Meanwhile, the men’s doubles duo of Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Kittinupong Kedren lost to Malaysia’s fifth seeds Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik (18-21, 18-21).
