Anwar Highlights Commitment to Good Governance at Davos Forum

Davos, January 22, 2025 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to good governance and democratic accountability as the foundation of its leadership. Speaking at an exclusive dialogue session titled “A Conversation with Anwar Ibrahim” at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of ethical leadership and transparency in nation-building.

“Many countries are destroyed because of arrogance and corruption, and that is why my priority in Malaysia is to address governance issues,” Anwar said during the session, moderated by WEF founder and chairman of the board of trustees, Prof Klaus Schwab. The event was broadcast live on Wednesday (Jan 22).

The Prime Minister acknowledged the challenges his administration faces in tackling corruption, which he described as systemic, noting that his government inherited several issues and scandals from the past. “We have to be very rigid on this,” he said, adding that reforms such as transparent tender processes and an empowered anti-corruption commission with adequate legislation are crucial starting points.

Anwar also highlighted the need for leaders to exhibit humility, particularly in the face of success. “When we are given praises, we need the humility to acknowledge that we also have limitations,” he remarked.

The Prime Minister’s statements reflect his administration’s broader efforts to restore public trust and ensure sustainable development through integrity and accountability in governance.
