Azerbaijani MPs to Attend Key Parliamentary Meetings at UN Headquarters

Baku, February 8, 2025 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijani parliamentarians Soltan Mammadov and Sevil Mikayilova will travel to New York, USA, on February 10 to participate in the meetings of the Organizing Committees of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament and the 15th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, as well as the IPU Parliamentary Hearing at the United Nations Headquarters.

The meeting of the Organizing Committee of the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament will include discussions on the approval of the report from the previous meeting, the agenda and program of the upcoming conference, and the draft declaration intended for adoption.

Meanwhile, the 15th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament will review the report from its second meeting held last year, discuss organizational matters, and approve the preliminary program, including key thematic topics.

As part of their visit, the Azerbaijani MPs will also attend the IPU Parliamentary Hearing at the UN Headquarters. The event, themed “Scaling up Action for the Sustainable Development Goals: Finance, Institutions, and Politics,” is jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the President of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The hearing will convene approximately 300 participants, including parliamentarians, Speakers of Parliament, advisers, and experts from over 60 countries. It will provide an in-depth discussion on strategies to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, focusing on combating poverty, reducing inequality, and promoting global sustainability.

The Azerbaijani delegation’s visit to New York is scheduled to conclude on February 16.
