Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Attends Memorial Ceremony for Former German President Horst Köhler

Ashgabat, February 8, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, attended a memorial ceremony at the Embassy of Germany in Ashgabat on Thursday to honor the late former President of Germany, Horst Köhler. The event was held following Köhler’s passing on February 1, 2025, at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.

During the ceremony, Minister Meredov signed the condolence book, extending Turkmenistan’s sympathies to the people of Germany and acknowledging Köhler’s contributions as an outstanding statesman.

Ambassadors and diplomatic representatives accredited in Turkmenistan also gathered at the embassy to offer their condolences. The German Embassy expressed gratitude for the solidarity shown by the Turkmen government, emphasizing that such gestures reinforce the friendly relations between the two nations.

Horst Köhler served as the Federal President of Germany from 2004 to 2010, playing a key role in Germany’s economic and international affairs. His passing marks the loss of a respected leader with a lasting impact on global diplomacy.
