Tehran, February 18, 2025 – The Europe Today: As part of his working visit to Tehran, Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov met on Monday with Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref to discuss key aspects of bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, the two leaders engaged in comprehensive discussions on Azerbaijani-Iranian relations, emphasizing the potential for enhanced collaboration in economic, trade, investment, transport, transit, oil and gas, energy, and humanitarian sectors.
A key focus of the discussions was the development of transport infrastructure projects, including the establishment of road and railway links and the construction of the East Zangezur-Nakhchivan transport corridor passing through Iranian territory. The leaders also examined the advancement of the North-South transport corridor, a major initiative aimed at strengthening regional connectivity.
Environmental concerns, particularly regarding the Caspian Sea, were also addressed. Both sides underscored the importance of coordinated efforts to prevent pollution and mitigate the effects of shallowing in the region. They reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation within the Caspian Sea basin on environmental and ecological matters.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Azerbaijan and Iran to further strengthening their strategic partnership through joint projects and closer economic ties. Both leaders expressed confidence that continued collaboration would contribute to regional stability and prosperity.
