Johannesburg, February 24, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir has called on G20 nations to move beyond discussions and take decisive action to address global challenges. Speaking at the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (FMM) in Johannesburg, South Africa, on February 21, Nasir emphasized the need for a collective strategy to tackle pressing issues such as economic turmoil, climate change, and social inequality.
“Now is the time to dare to make decisions and show real impact,” Nasir stated, stressing Indonesia’s commitment to ensuring that the G20 remains a relevant force for global change.
He urged the G20 to serve as a catalyst for measurable and transparent commitments, transforming the group into “a platform for action, not just a discussion forum.” According to Nasir, the world requires bold leadership and firm decision-making, and the G20 is well-positioned to play a significant role in shaping solutions.
Highlighting the necessity of a sustainable and impactful strategy, he underscored the importance of long-term planning that prioritizes human welfare, environmental protection, and shared prosperity. “Global challenges cannot be solved with short-term solutions. We need a concrete roadmap,” he asserted.
Nasir also advocated for strengthening global resilience through enhanced early warning systems, investment in resilient infrastructure, and sustainable financing mechanisms for disaster-prone countries. Additionally, he called for concrete steps to reinforce global supply chains, accelerate digital inclusion, and foster a sustainable green economy.
“No country should be forced to choose between paying debts or ensuring protection for its people,” he stressed, urging the mobilization of financing to support the energy transition through government-private sector partnerships. “We must ensure that the energy transition does not deepen global inequality but instead creates opportunities for inclusive growth,” he added.
During the discussions on G20 performance, several delegates proposed streamlining the group’s agenda to enhance effectiveness and focus on high-priority issues. Key topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), data governance, and innovation in sustainable development were also highlighted as crucial areas of concern at the meeting.
