Jakarta, February 27, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and the National Alms Agency (Baznas), has initiated a nationwide fundraising campaign to raise US$200 million in humanitarian aid for Palestine.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Anis Matta officially launched the campaign in Jakarta on Wednesday, expressing optimism about reaching the fundraising target.
“We hope this fundraising program can generate around US$200 million for Palestine,” Matta stated during the event.
Matta highlighted that various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) have already managed to collect a similar amount, reinforcing confidence in the campaign’s success. While the ministry has not set a fixed duration for the initiative, the fundraising efforts will commence during the holy month of Ramadan. The funds will be allocated for both immediate humanitarian relief and long-term reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
“We did not set a fixed target. We started it during the month of Ramadan for two programs. There is an emergency program now during the ceasefire period and also later for the Gaza reconstruction program,” Matta explained.
The campaign, supported by multiple alms and humanitarian institutions, is the result of three months of dialogue to establish a coordinated effort in aid distribution. According to Matta, the initiative is structured around three key objectives: strategic impact, tangible benefits for Palestinians, and a symbolic representation of Indonesia’s solidarity as the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation.
On the same occasion, Head of the MUI for Foreign Relations and International Cooperation, Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim, underscored the importance of international support for Gaza’s humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts.
Meanwhile, Head of Baznas for Planning, Studies, and Development, Zainul Bahar, conveyed his optimism regarding the campaign’s success. He reported that Baznas has already raised over Rp320 billion (US$19 million) for Palestine, with Rp200 billion (US$12 million) earmarked for critical projects such as education, hospital construction, and housing in Gaza.
Indonesia’s humanitarian initiative reinforces its longstanding commitment to supporting Palestine, demonstrating its leadership in global solidarity efforts for the region.
