Germany Reaches Limit on Military Aid from Bundeswehr Arsenals for Ukraine

Berlin, March 6, 2025 – The Europe Today: Germany has reached the limit of its capacity to supply weapons to Ukraine from its own Bundeswehr arsenals, Michael Stempfle, spokesperson for the German Ministry of Defense, stated during a press briefing on Wednesday.

When asked about the further transfer of Patriot systems and other weaponry, Stempfle emphasized that while Berlin had provided significant military aid to Ukraine, there was a “natural limit” to such deliveries. He noted that Germany must also focus on strengthening its own defense capabilities and ensuring that its European allies remain well-equipped.

Germany has been a key supporter of Ukraine since the escalation of the conflict in 2022, supplying military and financial assistance worth approximately €44 billion ($47 billion). The aid has included Leopard tanks, Panzerfaust 3 anti-tank rockets, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, and Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft vehicles.

Stempfle’s remarks come amid uncertainty over future Western support for Ukraine, particularly following reports that former U.S. President Donald Trump has halted military aid to Kyiv. According to American media reports, Washington has suspended deliveries of battle tanks, long-range missiles, and air defense systems, while also ceasing intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed concerns over the suspension of foreign aid, warning that Ukraine’s ability to sustain its defense without external support is limited.

Meanwhile, Russia has repeatedly criticized Western military aid to Ukraine, arguing that it prolongs the conflict without changing its ultimate outcome. Moscow has maintained that such assistance only escalates tensions and hampers prospects for peace.
