Ashgabat, March 18, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Korea, Begench Durdyyev, held a series of meetings in Singapore to discuss expanding diplomatic, economic, and transport cooperation, according to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Korea.
On March 12, Ambassador Durdyyev met with Samuel Tan, Director-General of the Department of the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia at Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The discussions focused on organizing high-level visits, political consultations, inter-parliamentary cooperation, and collaboration within international organizations. The Turkmen delegation also shared details about upcoming events marking the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s neutrality and the declaration of 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust,” along with the country’s strategic concept for these initiatives.
Further discussions took place on March 15, when Ambassador Durdyyev met with Yu Sin Tai, Deputy Director of the Department of Europe and Central Asia at Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry. The talks centered on strengthening trade and economic ties, attracting Singaporean investments into Turkmenistan’s special economic zones, and expanding cooperation in e-commerce and financial services. Both sides also explored increasing exports of Turkmen agricultural products and signing bilateral agreements to boost business interactions.
On the same day, the ambassador also held talks with Bernard Lim, Director-General of the Department of International Relations and Security at Singapore’s Ministry of Transport. Discussions covered enhancing cooperation in the transport and logistics sector, modernizing the Turkmenbashy International Sea Port, and fostering collaboration in shipbuilding and repairs. Additionally, both parties considered strengthening ties between the Türkmendeňizderýaýollary Agency and the Caspian Institute of Turkmenistan with relevant Singaporean institutions.
These engagements underscore Turkmenistan’s commitment to deepening relations with Singapore across multiple sectors, fostering economic and diplomatic ties, and enhancing regional connectivity.
