Ashgabat, March 20, 2025 – The Europe Today: The National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, held a phone conversation on Tuesday with the Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Valentina Matviyenko.
During the discussion, Berdimuhamedov extended an invitation to a high-level Russian delegation to participate in the international conference on child protection, scheduled for March 29 in Turkmenistan. The event, titled “Year of Peace and Trust: Developing International Activities for the Sake of Children,” will be organized by the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation for Assisting Children in Need of Guardianship, according to official Turkmen media reports.
Matviyenko expressed her gratitude for the invitation and confirmed the participation of Russian parliamentarians in the upcoming conference and other related events in Turkmenistan.
Strengthening Bilateral and Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation
During their conversation, Berdimuhamedov highly praised Matviyenko’s personal contribution to enhancing the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and Russia. He acknowledged her longstanding efforts in high-ranking positions, including as the head of St. Petersburg and later as Chairwoman of the Federation Council, in fostering strong bilateral ties.
The two leaders discussed avenues for expanding cooperation across multiple sectors, with a particular focus on inter-parliamentary dialogue and initiatives supporting collaboration between women in Central Asia and Russia. Special emphasis was placed on cultural and humanitarian exchanges in education, science, and healthcare.

At the conclusion of the discussion, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the partnership between Turkmenistan and Russia, emphasizing mutual trust and understanding as the foundation of their relations. They also exchanged warm wishes for the prosperity of both nations.
