Hanoi, March 31, 2025 – The Europe Today: Vietnam considers the United States a top strategic partner and seeks to deepen bilateral ties through close cooperation, Party General Secretary Tô Lâm stated during a meeting with US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper in Hanoi on March 31.
The Vietnamese Party chief praised the steady progress in Vietnam-US relations, particularly in economic, trade, and investment sectors. He emphasized the importance of effectively implementing the joint statement and action plan under the comprehensive strategic partnership to promote mutual interests and contribute to regional and global peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.
Lâm acknowledged the efforts of Ambassador Knapper and the US Embassy staff in strengthening high-level engagements, building political trust, and expanding cooperation in business, culture, and education. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to addressing US concerns and encouraging the import of key American products, such as farm produce, liquefied natural gas, and high-tech goods.
Vietnam remains dedicated to fostering a favorable investment environment and supporting foreign enterprises, including US firms, in expanding their presence in the country. Lâm stressed the goal of maintaining a balanced and sustainable economic relationship that benefits both nations.
Ambassador Knapper reaffirmed the US’s strong commitment to its comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam. He commended Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence and self-reliance and recognized the country’s growing role in promoting regional and global peace and stability.
Knapper expressed appreciation for Vietnam’s proactive approach in addressing US concerns and fostering a harmonious trade relationship. He noted that US businesses see Vietnam as a key partner in the global supply chain and recognize the opportunities in the Vietnamese market for American products and services.
He pledged to work towards strengthening Vietnam-US cooperation across multiple areas, including economic and trade relations, defense and security, education and training, immigration issues, and the fight against transnational crimes. Knapper emphasized the importance of continued high-level engagements to enhance the partnership between the two nations.
