President Serdar Berdimuhamedov Arrives in Uzbekistan for Central Asia – European Union Summit

Samarkand, April 3, 2025 – The Europe Today: The President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, has arrived in Uzbekistan to participate in the inaugural “Central Asia – European Union” summit. Upon his arrival at Samarkand International Airport, the distinguished guest was warmly welcomed by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Abdulla Aripov, along with other senior government officials.

The summit will focus on the prospects for strengthening multilateral relations and enhancing practical cooperation between the Central Asian countries and the European Union. Discussions are expected to cover a wide range of areas, including political, economic, and cultural collaboration.

Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan share robust, multifaceted relations, which have been expanding rapidly in recent years. Built on the principles of friendship, trust, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership, the two nations continue to foster closer ties in various sectors. Notably, the volume of mutual trade between the two countries exceeded $1 billion last year, highlighting the growing strength of their economic collaboration.

Key sectors of cooperation include energy, transportation, agriculture, and water management. The countries are also jointly establishing the “Shavat – Dashoguz” cross-border trade zone, which is expected to further facilitate trade and economic integration.

In addition to these efforts, active interregional ties and cultural-humanitarian exchange programs continue to play a significant role in the bilateral relationship. Various events are regularly organized, further cementing the strong and dynamic partnership between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
