Speaker of Milli Majlis Meets with ICAPP Chairman

Baku, April 5, 2025 – The Europe Today: On Saturday, Speaker of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with Chung Eui-yong, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), in Baku. The two leaders engaged in a productive discussion centered on regional cooperation and multilateral diplomacy.

During the meeting, Gafarova and Eui-yong underscored the critical role that ICAPP plays in fostering peace, security, and cooperation across the Asian continent. Both emphasized the importance of such dialogues, noting that these gatherings provide valuable opportunities for addressing issues of multilateral cooperation and promoting collaboration within international organizations.

Speaker Gafarova provided an in-depth overview of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, an initiative launched by President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan. She outlined the steps Azerbaijan has taken since the Network’s founding conference to ensure its institutional development, highlighting the Network’s rapid evolution into a prominent platform for international cooperation.

The discussion also touched on the successful collaboration between the Parliamentary Network and ICAPP, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. ICAPP currently holds observer status at the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, further solidifying the bond between the two entities.

Chung Eui-yong commended the progress of the Parliamentary Network under Azerbaijan’s leadership and reflected fondly on his previous visits to the country. He expressed his positive impressions of Azerbaijan, particularly its capital, Baku.

The meeting also noted the significant role of Azerbaijan’s ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) in ICAPP. Speaker Gafarova reaffirmed NAP’s commitment to the activities of ICAPP and reiterated Azerbaijan’s consistent support for the organization. Additionally, it was highlighted that ICAPP representatives have actively monitored elections in Azerbaijan, further strengthening the relationship between the two parties.

This meeting further emphasizes the growing importance of Azerbaijan in promoting regional and international cooperation, reinforcing its status as a key player in global diplomatic and political affairs.
