Indonesia and UAE Seal Eight Cooperation Deals Covering Energy, Security, Trade, and Religious Affairs

Abu Dhabi, April 10, 2025 — The Europe Today: Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have strengthened their strategic partnership with the signing of eight bilateral cooperation agreements during President Prabowo Subianto’s official visit to Abu Dhabi. The accords, witnessed by President Prabowo and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, span a wide range of sectors, from energy transition and food security to security, trade, and religious affairs.

The agreements were formalized following a two-hour meeting between the two leaders at Qasr Al Shatie Palace on Wednesday. A press release from President Prabowo’s secretariat in Jakarta noted that the deals include memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and letters of intent between government entities, businesses, and cross-sector partnerships.

The eight agreements include:

  1. Letter of Intention on Nature and Climate Partnership – Signed between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs, focusing on environmental cooperation.
  2. Amended Protocol on Marine Affairs and Fisheries Cooperation – A second amendment to the existing MoU between the two governments to deepen collaboration in marine and fisheries sectors.
  3. MoU on Security and Counterterrorism – Signed by the UAE Ministry of Interior and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to strengthen joint efforts against terrorism and transnational threats.
  4. MoU on Islamic Affairs and Endowments – A cultural and religious cooperation pact between Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs and the UAE General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat.
  5. MoU on Milk Production Investment – A business-to-government agreement between Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture and the UAE’s Al-Ain Farms to support Indonesia’s food security and dairy industry.
  6. MoU between Ninety Degree General Trading LLC and PT Pindad – A strategic partnership involving Indonesia’s state-owned defense equipment manufacturer, supporting bilateral defense industry collaboration.
  7. Agreement in Principle for the Cirata Floating Solar Power Plant – An understanding to expand the capacity of Indonesia’s flagship floating solar power facility.
  8. MoU on the 100-Megawatt Jatigede Floating Solar Power Plant – A renewable energy partnership between Indonesia’s PT PLN and Abu Dhabi-based Masdar, reinforcing the shared commitment to sustainable energy development.

The leaders also addressed key global challenges, including the ongoing conflict in Gaza and recent shifts in U.S. trade policy. President Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s humanitarian commitment and briefed President Al Nahyan on Jakarta’s plan to evacuate 1,000 Palestinians to Indonesia, seeking support from regional partners during his ongoing Middle East diplomatic tour, which includes visits to Turkiye, Egypt, Qatar, and Jordan.

The signing of the agreements marks a new chapter in Indonesia-UAE relations, cementing their shared vision for a collaborative, secure, and sustainable future.
