IPU Delegates Visit Historic Sites in Uzbekistan Following Conclusion of 150th Assembly

Khiva, April 13, 2025 – The Europe Today: Following the successful conclusion of the 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), participants are now undertaking cultural visits to Uzbekistan’s historic cities and landmarks. Among the notable guests are Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the IPU, and Dr. Stella Chungong, Director of the Health Security Preparedness Department of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The dignitaries recently visited the city of Urgench and the Ichan Kala complex in Khiva, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its architectural splendor and deep historical significance. During their tour, they became acquainted with Uzbekistan’s rich cultural heritage, centuries-old traditions, and the vibrant way of life of the Uzbek people.

As part of the program, the guests attended exhibitions featuring traditional Khorezm cuisine, folk and applied arts, as well as performances of regional folk songs and dances. These events offered the visitors an immersive experience into the cultural fabric of the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Martin Chungong praised the overall organization and impact of the Assembly: “The anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union was organized at a very high level. We became familiar with opportunities created for young people and once again were convinced that Uzbekistan has many talents. We were particularly impressed by the culture, traditions, customs, and national costumes.”

He further described Khiva as “an amazingly colorful city,” noting that even casual strolls through its streets evoke the enchanting ambiance of the ancient East. “The trip left many vivid impressions,” he added.

The post-Assembly cultural program highlights Uzbekistan’s growing prominence not only as a venue for major international gatherings but also as a destination that offers a deep and engaging exploration of history, culture, and hospitality.
