Cairo, April 13, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was welcomed with a state reception by his Egyptian counterpart, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, upon his arrival at Al-Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo on Saturday. The ceremonial welcome, which took place at 5 p.m. Jakarta time (noon Cairo time), was broadcast live via the Egyptian Presidential Palace’s official YouTube channel, accessed from Jakarta.
During the ceremony, President Prabowo, dressed in a dark blue suit, tie, and trousers, complemented by a black peci hat, was greeted by El-Sisi, who was similarly dressed in formal attire but left his head uncovered. Following the reception, the two leaders walked side by side in a ceremonial procession, accompanied by honor guards. The national anthems of Indonesia and Egypt were played, with Indonesia Raya followed by Bilady Bilady Bilady.
The welcome ceremony was followed by a bilateral meeting between President Prabowo and President El-Sisi, where they were expected to discuss key issues such as regional geopolitics, the situation in Gaza, and other strategic matters. Both leaders are also set to witness the signing of a Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations in various sectors.
Yusuf Permana, Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media at the Indonesian President’s Secretariat, confirmed that the two leaders will engage in a one-on-one discussion before concluding their meeting with a state luncheon.
This visit marks the third stop in President Prabowo’s Middle East diplomatic tour, which began on Wednesday with a visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he met with President Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan in Abu Dhabi. The Indonesian President arrived in Cairo on Friday at 7:25 p.m. local time, following his participation in the 2025 Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Türkiye.
After concluding his engagements with President El-Sisi, President Prabowo will continue his Middle East tour with a visit to Doha, Qatar.
