Qatar Welcomes Iran–U.S. Indirect Talks, Offers Support for Ongoing Negotiations

Doha, April 14, 2025 — The Europe Today: Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani has welcomed the first round of indirect negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, expressing Doha’s readiness to assist in the diplomatic process moving forward.

According to a statement published Sunday evening via the Telegram channel of the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi held a phone call with the Qatari prime minister and foreign minister to brief him on the outcome of the initial talks, which took place on Saturday in Oman.

Araqchi, who led the Iranian delegation, held indirect discussions with U.S. representative Steve Witkoff, with Muscat serving as mediator. During the call, the Iranian diplomat outlined the key points of the negotiations and reaffirmed Tehran’s commitment to leveraging all available diplomatic channels to address and resolve outstanding issues with Washington.

The Qatari prime minister commended the positive tone of the first round and reiterated Qatar’s support for dialogue and de-escalation. He further expressed the country’s willingness to contribute to the continuation of the diplomatic track, emphasizing the importance of regional stability and cooperation.

Both Iranian and American officials have described the Saturday talks as “constructive,” raising cautious optimism that further progress could be achieved when negotiations resume next week.

The renewed engagement between Tehran and Washington marks a significant development amid ongoing efforts by regional actors, including Oman and Qatar, to facilitate dialogue and promote diplomatic solutions to longstanding tensions.
