Prime Minister Chính Urges Stronger Cooperation with GGGI to Advance Green Growth in Vietnam

Hanoi, April 17, 2025 — The Europe Today: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has called on the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) to deepen its cooperation with Vietnam in the nation’s pursuit of sustainable development and green transformation. The appeal came during a meeting with GGGI Director-General Sang-Hyup Kim in Hanoi on Thursday, held on the sidelines of the 4th Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit.

Welcoming the GGGI’s goal to mobilise an additional US$1 billion in green financing for Vietnam during the 2024–2028 period, Prime Minister Chính reiterated the country’s strong commitment to a green transition, energy sustainability, and environmentally responsible economic development. He underlined these efforts as central to Vietnam’s national growth strategy in the new era.

The Prime Minister expressed appreciation for GGGI’s contributions to global sustainability and its practical partnerships with Vietnamese ministries, agencies, and localities, especially its role in mobilising funding for green projects. He urged the institute to enhance its support in multiple areas, including policy consultancy, legal framework development, green capital mobilisation, technology research and transfer, human resources training, and ecosystem development.

“These initiatives are vital to fostering inclusive and comprehensive green growth, which is key to Việt Nam’s long-term socio-economic progress,” PM Chính said.

He also encouraged GGGI to strengthen financial support for both public and public-private partnership (PPP) projects, expand connections with financial institutions, and provide expert guidance on the implementation of green initiatives to ensure the effective deployment of the targeted US$1 billion investment.

In response, Director-General Kim praised Vietnam as one of GGGI’s founding and most active member states, commending its leadership in green transformation, digital innovation, and artificial intelligence development. He confirmed that GGGI had already helped mobilise over US$300 million for green investment in Vietnam and expressed confidence in reaching the US$1 billion target by 2028.

Kim highlighted key areas for enhanced cooperation, including facilitating green bond issuance, supporting innovative startups, creating green innovation centres, and connecting Vietnam with global financial networks to boost green finance.

He also extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Chính for endorsing the agreement between the Vietnamese Government and GGGI, affirming the institute’s commitment to continue delivering tangible outcomes to support Vietnam’s green agenda and to strengthen Vietnam–Republic of Korea (RoK) cooperation in green transition, IT, agriculture, and energy.

Established originally as a research initiative in the Republic of Korea, GGGI became an international organisation in 2012 through a multilateral agreement at the UN Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development. Vietnam ratified the founding document later that year, further cementing its role as a key partner in the global green growth movement.
