Turkmenistan Celebrates National Holiday of the Turkmen Horse with International Events and Festivities

Ashgabat, April 26, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan is hosting large-scale celebrations in honor of the National Holiday of the Turkmen Horse, observed this year on April 27, with a series of cultural and equestrian events paying tribute to the country’s prized Akhal-Teke horse.

Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Tangryguly Atakhalliyev reported on the activities during a government meeting chaired by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, according to TDH.

The celebrations commenced with the 17th International Scientific Conference “Turkmen Horse and World Horse Breeding Art”, held on April 25 at the Aba Annaev International Academy of Horse Breeding, drawing researchers, breeders, and equestrian experts from around the world.

Today, the final round of the international beauty contest titled “The Most Beautiful Akhal-Teke Horse of the Year” is taking place at the open arena of the academy. The contest is a highlight of the holiday, showcasing the legendary grace and elegance of Turkmenistan’s national treasure.

On April 27, the day of the holiday itself, horse races will be held at the International Akhal-Teke Equestrian Complex, continuing a proud tradition that reflects the deep cultural and historical connection between the Turkmen people and their horses.

Alongside the festivities, the Deputy Prime Minister provided an update on the nation’s agricultural activities, noting ongoing cotton sowing, irrigation, and inter-row cultivation, as well as care for wheat and other spring crops.

President Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of enhancing the agricultural sector and maintaining a high organizational standard for the Horse Festival, instructing officials to keep spring field work under strict supervision and to ensure the success of the national celebrations.
