Ashgabat, May 1, 2025 – The Europe Today: Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, extended an official invitation to German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to visit Turkmenistan during a recent phone call, according to state media reports on Wednesday.
The two leaders engaged in a detailed discussion on key areas of bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing a broad and mutually beneficial partnership. Sectors identified as particularly promising for collaboration included the chemical industry, transportation, healthcare, agriculture, and the textile industry.
The Turkmen side proposed expanding cooperation with major German companies such as BASF, MAN, Deutsche Bahn, Siemens, Knauf, and others. Berdimuhamedov emphasized Turkmenistan’s openness to engaging with global industry leaders in advancing national development goals.
During the call, Berdimuhamedov also highlighted Turkmenistan’s successful initiative at the United Nations General Assembly to declare 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust. In this context, he invited President Steinmeier to participate in an international forum to be held in Ashgabat on December 12, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.
Further discussions focused on prospective cooperation with German firms Thyssen Schachtbau GmbH and Schachtbau Nordhausen GmbH in developing the Garlyk mining complex. Additional areas of interest included the green economy, water resource management, and renewable energy technologies. Banking sector partnerships were also reviewed, with particular attention given to potential collaboration with Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank.
Cultural and humanitarian relations featured prominently in the talks, with both sides acknowledging the success of the “Margiana” archaeological exhibition held in Germany. The Turkmen side expressed readiness to organize a second installment of the exhibition to further enhance cultural exchange.
Concluding the conversation, Berdimuhamedov and Steinmeier exchanged warm wishes and expressed confidence in the continued strengthening of the long-standing and friendly relations between Turkmenistan and Germany.
