Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan Sign Protocol to Deepen Transport and Logistics Cooperation

Ashgabat, May 2, 2025 – The Europe Today: Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan have signed a protocol solidifying bilateral commitments in the fields of transport, transit, and logistics, following the conclusion of the inaugural meeting of the Joint Turkmen-Kyrgyz Commission held from April 28 to 30 in Bishkek. The Embassy of Turkmenistan in Kyrgyzstan reported the development on Friday.

The protocol outlines a range of priority areas aimed at strengthening cooperation, including the advancement of transit transportation, the expansion of multimodal logistics routes, and collaboration in road, rail, and water transport systems. Both sides also explored opportunities for optimizing the use of Turkmenistan’s Turkmenbashi International Seaport and agreed to enhance coordination on tariff policies to facilitate smoother and more cost-effective trade flows.

The meeting marked a significant step in the bilateral relationship, highlighting shared goals of improving regional connectivity and boosting economic integration through coordinated transport infrastructure initiatives.

The next session of the Joint Commission is scheduled for 2026 and will be hosted by Turkmenistan, continuing the momentum of strategic cooperation between the two Central Asian nations.

The inaugural meeting, which officially commenced on April 28, served as a platform for detailed discussions on existing transport corridors and future projects aimed at positioning Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan as key transit hubs in the region.
