President Zardari Receives Iranian Foreign Minister to Discuss Bilateral Ties and Regional Security

Islamabad, May 6, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Asif Ali Zardari received the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Monday for high-level discussions on bilateral relations, regional security, and pressing international developments, including the recent escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan.

Welcoming the Iranian Foreign Minister, President Zardari reaffirmed the deep-rooted and brotherly ties between Pakistan and Iran, underscoring the importance of working together to promote peace, stability, and economic prosperity across the region.

Foreign Minister Araghchi conveyed that his visit was undertaken on the special instructions of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatullah Sayyid Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, reflecting the high priority Tehran places on its relations with Islamabad. He expressed Iran’s understanding of Pakistan’s position in the wake of the Pahalgam incident and called for restraint by all parties to de-escalate tensions and avoid further deterioration of the situation.

The Iranian Foreign Minister reiterated Tehran’s desire to enhance bilateral cooperation in diverse sectors and emphasised the need to expand trade to its full potential. He also discussed developments in Afghanistan and expressed Iran’s willingness to coordinate with Pakistan on all regional matters of mutual concern.

President Zardari thanked Minister Araghchi for visiting Pakistan at a critical time, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue and diplomacy in addressing regional challenges. He voiced serious concern over India’s aggressive stance, warning that such actions jeopardise regional peace and security.

The two sides also discussed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and expressed strong condemnation of the ongoing atrocities and grave human rights violations being committed by Israeli forces in Gaza and the West Bank.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Araghchi conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President Masoud Pezeshkian to President Zardari, reaffirming Iran’s commitment to strengthening its multifaceted partnership with Pakistan.
