Baku, May 13, 2025 — The Europe Today: Building on the momentum of the landmark COP29 summit, Azerbaijan is once again preparing to bring together the international climate community with the announcement of the second Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW), to be held from 29 September to 3 October 2025.
The announcement was made today in Baku by COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev and COP29 High-Level Champion Nigar Arpadarai, underscoring Azerbaijan’s continued leadership in promoting regional and global climate action. The event will mark the second edition of BCAW, following its inaugural success last year.
“Azerbaijan was honoured to host COP29 and we are proud of the many outcomes achieved,” said Mukhtar Babayev. “But there is no time to rest on one’s laurels as temperatures continue to rise and climate impacts threaten every part of the world with greater ferocity. We must not lose focus. Investment in climate action must not waver, and we must seize the opportunities that it creates.”
Babayev added that Azerbaijan would remain a standard bearer for climate action in the region, working closely with Brazil as the incoming COP30 Presidency to sustain global momentum and drive further progress.
High-Level Champion Nigar Arpadarai emphasized the need for a whole-of-society approach to climate action. “Last year, Baku Climate Action Week helped to galvanise climate action across every part of society in Azerbaijan and across our region. We now need to carry this momentum forward to create lasting change.”
She also highlighted the growing network of international collaboration, citing successful partnerships with London — which pioneered the city-wide London Climate Action Week — and new cooperation with Rio de Janeiro, which will host its first Rio Climate Action Week this year.
The 2025 edition of BCAW will feature a major international conference in Baku, along with a diverse programme of workshops, roundtables, and cultural events. The event is once again curated by Malini Mehra and supported by a team of domestic and international experts and institutional partners.
Key themes for BCAW 2025 include:
- Energy Transition
- Sustainable Agriculture and Water Resource Management
- Cities and the Built Environment
- Science, Technology & Innovation
- Sustainable Economic Growth
- SMEs and Green Skills
- Youth & NextGen Start-Ups

Baku Climate Action Week is positioned as a premier international platform to showcase climate solutions, foster new partnerships, and advance inclusive, cross-sectoral collaboration.
