Ashgabat Hosts Inauguration of Memory Alley Honoring 80th Anniversary of Victory in Great Patriotic War

Ashgabat, May 14, 2025 — The Europe Today: A solemn ceremony was held in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, to inaugurate the Memory Alley, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The commemorative event took place on the premises of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Turkmenistan and served as a powerful symbol of remembrance and reverence for the heroism of the Soviet people in the fight against fascism. The event was reported by Turkmenistan’s official media on Tuesday.

The opening ceremony was led by Ivan Volynkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan. In his address, Ambassador Volynkin emphasized the enduring importance of preserving historical memory and ensuring that the legacy of past generations is passed down to future ones.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Russian diplomatic mission, representatives of foreign embassies accredited in Turkmenistan, and invited guests, reflecting the international resonance of the Victory’s legacy and the shared responsibility in honoring its memory.

Following the official speeches, the attendees proceeded to the newly inaugurated Memory Alley, where a symbolic planting of ten trees took place. Participants observed a moment of silence in memory of the fallen and laid wreaths at the base of the alley, paying tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for peace and freedom.

According to reports, the Memory Alley initiative is part of a broader international campaign launched in 2020, which aims to plant 27 million trees annually around the world in remembrance of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. To date, approximately 130 million saplings have been planted under this initiative.

Situated on the grounds of the Russian Embassy in Ashgabat, the new Memory Alley stands as a poignant site of remembrance and a testament to the shared historical legacy and commitment to global peace.
