China Urges Stronger China–LAC Cooperation to Foster Global Prosperity

Beijing, May 14, 2025 — The Europe Today: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday called for deeper collaboration between China and Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries, proposing the joint development of a mega market encompassing around 2 billion people to serve as a new engine for global growth and prosperity.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks at a press conference following the opening ceremony of the fourth ministerial meeting of the China–CELAC Forum (Community of Latin American and Caribbean States) in Beijing.

Emphasizing the vast potential for China–LAC cooperation, Wang affirmed China’s continued commitment to high-level opening-up and pledged that China would share the broad development opportunities created by Chinese-style modernization with all partner countries.

“In an era marked by unprecedented global changes, China and LAC countries—both key players in promoting a multipolar world and the democratization of international relations—must deepen unity, enhance cooperation, and jointly respond to global turbulence,” Wang stated. “Together, we can inject positive energy into the cause of global peace and development.”

Reflecting on the achievements of the China–CELAC Forum over the past decade, Wang noted that the forum has yielded substantial results and has steadily developed into a more robust institutional platform through joint efforts from both sides.

He urged participating countries to seize the current momentum to expand the breadth and depth of cooperation within the forum, improve the quality of collaboration, and elevate the forum into what he termed its “next golden decade.”

Wang’s remarks underscored China’s strategic intent to deepen ties with LAC nations across economic, political, and multilateral dimensions, promoting a shared future of inclusive development and strengthened South–South cooperation.
