Jakarta, May 14, 2025 — The Europe Today: Indonesian Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya received French Ambassador to Indonesia Fabien Penone at his office on Tuesday to coordinate preparations for the upcoming official visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Indonesia, scheduled for later this month.
In a statement issued by the Cabinet Secretariat and cited in Jakarta, Wijaya confirmed that President Prabowo Subianto is set to welcome President Macron for a bilateral meeting during the planned visit between May 27 and 29.
“President Prabowo and President Macron last met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Brazil in November last year,” Wijaya stated, underscoring the continuity of high-level dialogue between the two leaders.
Highlighting the strategic importance of the visit, Wijaya noted that France, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and the world’s seventh-largest economy, is a vital global partner. He expressed optimism that the meeting with Ambassador Penone would help elevate Indonesia–France bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
As part of the planned itinerary, President Prabowo is expected to invite President Macron to visit the Indonesian Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java. Preparations are already underway, including an inspection conducted by Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto on May 9. In addition, 104 soldiers from the army, navy, and air force have undertaken an intensive French language course in anticipation of the visit.
President Macron’s intent to visit Indonesia was officially confirmed following talks between Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Noël Barrot in Jakarta on March 26. The diplomatic momentum was further reinforced through a telephone conversation between President Prabowo and President Macron on April 4.
“In my discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron, we agreed to continue promoting inclusive and sustainable economic development for the welfare of our people,” President Prabowo noted on his official Instagram account, @prabowo.
President Macron also shared similar sentiments on his social media account, @EmmanuelMacron, affirming both countries’ shared ambition to strengthen cooperation in the fields of defense, economy, culture, and education.
“This historic approach we are preparing will come into realization during my state visit to Indonesia at the end of May,” Macron stated.
The anticipated visit marks a significant milestone in Indonesia–France relations and is expected to yield new avenues for strategic collaboration.
