President Prabowo Subianto Receives Brunei’s Highest State Honor

Bandar Seri Begawan, May 15, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was awarded the Darjah Kerabat Laila Utama Yang Amat Dihormati (Most Esteemed Family Order of Laila Utama), Brunei Darussalam’s highest state honor, by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah during a ceremony held at the Nurul Iman Palace in Bandar Seri Begawan on Wednesday.

The prestigious award is reserved for heads of state and world leaders who have made exceptional contributions to strengthening bilateral relations with the Sultanate. President Prabowo’s conferment reflects Brunei’s recognition of Indonesia’s enduring friendship and strategic partnership with the country.

Following the investiture ceremony, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the honor and underscored the significance of his state visit, reaffirming the close historical, cultural, and religious ties between Indonesia and Brunei.

“This visit is certainly very important for us. As mentioned earlier, the two countries share common roots, culture, history, and religion. We are truly ‘one family,’” President Prabowo stated after his meeting with the Sultan.

He stressed the importance of solidarity and cooperation among ASEAN member states, especially amid global uncertainty.

“Only through cooperation between us, as fellow ASEAN members, can we together protect each other,” he affirmed.

President Prabowo further emphasized that the well-being and stability of Brunei have direct implications for Indonesia, stating, “If Brunei is ‘pinched,’ all of us in Indonesia will also feel the pain. We are very proud to have Brunei Darussalam as a good friend.”

The ceremonial activities concluded with an official luncheon hosted by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah at the palace.

President Prabowo is scheduled to return to Indonesia on Wednesday afternoon after completing his official engagements in Brunei Darussalam, marking a significant step in reaffirming the strong and enduring ties between the two Southeast Asian nations.
