China Announces One-Year Visa-Free Entry for Citizens of Five Latin American Countries

Beijing, May 16, 2025 – The Europe Today: China will implement a one-year visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders from five Latin American countries—Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay—starting June 1, 2025, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday.

The new policy, which will be in effect through May 31, 2026, allows eligible nationals to enter China without a visa for stays of up to 30 days. The visa exemption applies to visits for business, tourism, family or friend visits, exchange programs, or transit purposes.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian made the announcement at a regular press briefing, stating that the initiative reflects China’s commitment to enhancing people-to-people exchanges and deepening cooperation with Latin American countries.

“We welcome more foreign friends to make good use of China’s visa-free and visa facilitation policies to visit China more often,” Lin said, adding that the move aligns with China’s broader strategy of high-level opening-up and promoting international engagement.

The spokesperson also highlighted that China will continue to roll out additional measures to facilitate cross-border travel and strengthen its ties with countries across the globe.

The visa-free policy marks a significant step in advancing China’s diplomatic and economic relations with Latin America, reinforcing mutual trust and creating more opportunities for cooperation in various fields.
