Turkmenistan to Host Regional Conference on Preventive Diplomacy in Cooperation with OSCE

Ashgabat, May 19, 2025 — The Europe Today: Turkmenistan, in partnership with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), will host a regional conference on preventive diplomacy in Ashgabat on May 27–28, 2025. The high-level event will focus on enhancing regional cooperation through preventive diplomacy, with special emphasis on the implementation of the United Nations Security Council’s Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda and relevant UNSC resolutions.

According to Turkmenistan’s state media, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov briefed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the ongoing preparations during a Cabinet meeting held on Saturday. He highlighted that Turkmenistan’s cooperation with the OSCE is structured around an annual action plan encompassing a wide range of areas, including political, economic, environmental, and humanitarian dimensions.

Meredov announced several upcoming initiatives within the framework of OSCE cooperation. These include the participation of a delegation from Turkmenistan’s Mejlis (parliament) in the 32nd OSCE Parliamentary Assembly session, scheduled to take place from June 29 to July 3, 2025, in Porto, Portugal. A side event has been proposed in conjunction with the session to commemorate the International Year of Peace and Trust and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s status as a neutral state.

Further strengthening diplomatic engagement, a Turkmen delegation is set to travel to Warsaw on June 9 for consultations with representatives of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). Additionally, Turkmen officials will participate in a forum hosted by the OSCE Secretary General for heads of Central Asian border services, which is scheduled to be held on June 18–19 in Istanbul.

President Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed the country’s commitment to deepening cooperation with international organizations, particularly the OSCE. He instructed Deputy Prime Minister Meredov to continue advancing collaborative efforts in line with Turkmenistan’s foreign policy priorities.

In addition to the foreign policy agenda, the Cabinet of Ministers also reviewed a number of domestic policy matters during the session.
