Tashkent, May 20, 2025 — The Europe Today: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on the upcoming projects aimed at expanding and modernizing the Tashkent Metro system, a critical component of the capital’s public transportation infrastructure.
The Tashkent Metro, recognized as a vital artery for daily commuting in the city, has seen significant development in recent years. As part of ongoing efforts to enhance passenger convenience and reduce urban congestion, several new lines have been constructed and extended. The Yunusabad line now reaches Turkiston station, while the Chilanzar line has been expanded to serve the Sergeli district.
In a landmark initiative by the Head of State, an overground circular metro line was introduced, stretching from Dustlik station to Sergeli. This new route has successfully connected the Yunusabad, Yashnabad, Mirabad, Sergeli, and Yangihayot districts, substantially easing the daily commute for thousands of residents.
Building on these achievements, plans are now underway to further extend the metro system to the residential area near the Tashkent Tractor Plant (TTP). During earlier consultations, President Mirziyoyev emphasized the need to optimize the project for both cost-effectiveness and passenger comfort.
According to the proposal presented, the expansion will be executed in two phases. The first phase will involve the construction of an overground metro line along existing railway tracks, linking Pushkin station on the Chilanzar line to the Feruza neighborhood in the Mirzo Ulugbek district. The second phase will extend the line to the bus terminal in the TTP area.
The proposed extension is expected to significantly reduce the burden on road infrastructure. Currently, approximately 47,000 vehicles carrying around 194,000 passengers enter the city center daily from this direction. The new metro line is projected to accommodate up to 85,000 passengers each day.
During the presentation, technical and operational aspects of the project were discussed in detail, including route design, passenger capacity, construction methods, and integration with existing transit systems. President Mirziyoyev reiterated the importance of maintaining high standards of safety, accessibility, and efficiency throughout the implementation process.
The proposed expansion of the Tashkent Metro underscores Uzbekistan’s broader commitment to modernizing urban transport and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
