Azerbaijan to Host 2026 Islamic Development Bank Annual Meeting

Baku, May 23, 2025 – The Europe Today: Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economy, Mikayil Jabbarov, has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, with Azerbaijan set to host the Group’s Annual Meeting in 2026.

The announcement was made during a formal host country handover ceremony held in Algeria. In his remarks, Minister Jabbarov expressed sincere appreciation to the Islamic Development Bank Group for the trust and confidence placed in Azerbaijan through both the chairmanship appointment and the selection of Baku as the venue for the upcoming meeting.

Reflecting on Azerbaijan’s successful organization of the Bank’s 35th Annual Meeting in 2010, Jabbarov underscored that the return of this prestigious event to Azerbaijan would not only reaffirm the country’s active engagement with Islamic financial institutions but also expand opportunities for foreign investment and support the nation’s long-term economic sustainability.

“The 2026 Annual Meeting will serve as a significant platform to deepen our partnership with the IsDB Group and foster broader regional cooperation,” he stated.

During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed, outlining the logistical and infrastructural arrangements to be provided by Azerbaijan for the 2026 Annual Meeting. The agreement ensures comprehensive support for the successful execution of the gathering and further cements Azerbaijan’s role as a proactive contributor to global and regional development dialogues.

The IsDB Annual Meeting serves as a key forum for member countries to engage in high-level discussions on economic and development strategies, align efforts on sustainable growth, and promote cooperation among Islamic nations.
