Indonesia, UK Lawmakers Discuss Boosting Trade and Investment Cooperation

London, May 23, 2025 – The Europe Today: Representatives from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) held a strategic meeting with members of the UK Parliament on Tuesday in London to explore new opportunities for strengthening bilateral economic ties. The talks focused on key issues such as trade, job creation, and investment, Kadin announced in a statement released Thursday.

Kadin Chair Anindya Bakrie stated that the Indonesian delegation met with an all-party parliamentary group composed of UK parliamentarians focused on Indonesia-related affairs. The discussions covered Indonesia’s responses to U.S. tariff policies and identified potential sectors for collaboration between Indonesia and the United Kingdom.

Bakrie emphasized that while Indonesia and the UK enjoy strong diplomatic relations, there is a pressing need to reinforce these ties with concrete economic and investment cooperation. “This way, we can boost economic growth to our target of 8 percent, create job opportunities, and significantly increase trade and investment flows,” he said.

The Kadin chairman described the visit to London as a form of economic diplomacy, aimed at expanding the global reach of Indonesian products and reducing over-reliance on traditional trade partners like the United States and China.

He also highlighted the importance of Indonesia leveraging its growing roles within international platforms such as BRICS and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to open new market avenues and enhance global competitiveness.

Indonesian Ambassador to the UK, Desra Percaya, underscored the importance of the meeting in laying the groundwork for a more dynamic and mutually beneficial economic partnership.

“Maintaining strong relations with the UK is essential to enhancing mutually beneficial trade and investment,” the ambassador stated, expressing optimism about the future of Indonesia-UK economic collaboration.

The meeting signals a shared commitment by both nations to deepen engagement in key economic sectors and support long-term growth and innovation through strategic partnerships.
