Islamabad, May 24, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Pakistan hosted a reception on Friday in Islamabad to commemorate Azerbaijan’s upcoming Independence Day. The event, which was attended by a diverse group of dignitaries, was graced by the Federal Minister for Petroleum of Pakistan, Ali Pervaiz Malik, as the chief guest.
The reception was also attended by the Governors of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, Kamran Tessori and Faisal Karim Kundi, respectively, as well as former Climate Change Minister, Senator Sherry Rehman. Among the attendees were foreign ambassadors and diplomats based in Islamabad, senior Pakistani government officials, members of the business community, representatives from civil society, prominent media personalities, and Azerbaijani nationals residing in Pakistan.
The ceremony began with the playing of the national anthems of both Azerbaijan and Pakistan, marking a moment of solidarity and friendship between the two nations.
In his remarks, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, Khazar Farhadov, highlighted the historical significance of May 28, the date celebrated as Azerbaijan’s Independence Day. He reflected on the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on May 28, 1918, which was the first democratic secular republic in the Muslim East.
Ambassador Farhadov expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s steadfast support following the restoration of Azerbaijan’s independence, noting that Pakistan was one of the first countries to officially recognize Azerbaijan’s independence in December 1991. He emphasized the enduring bonds of friendship, brotherhood, and strategic partnership that unite Azerbaijan and Pakistan, rooted in their shared historical and cultural ties.
The event was a testament to the strong and continuing relationship between the two countries, with an emphasis on deepening cooperation across various spheres.
