Jakarta, May 25, 2025 – The Europe Today: Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Saturday called for expanding China-Indonesia cooperation, reinforcing industrial integration, and defending free trade, as he addressed the 2025 Indonesia-China Business Reception in Jakarta.
Highlighting the significance of this year, which marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Indonesia and the 70th anniversary of the historic Bandung Conference, Premier Li reflected on the enduring legacy of the Bandung Spirit. He noted that more than seven decades ago, as the world stood at a historical crossroads, Asian and African nations including China and Indonesia gathered in Bandung, Indonesia, and forged a spirit of solidarity, friendship, and cooperation that has since guided South-South cooperation and contributed to global progress.
“Today, the world once again finds itself at a critical juncture,” Li said, citing increasing geopolitical turmoil, the rise of unilateralism and protectionism, and growing acts of economic coercion and bullying. “The contemporary relevance of the Bandung Spirit has never been more prominent,” he emphasized.
Premier Li urged both nations to uphold the principles of peaceful coexistence, seek common ground while setting aside differences, and work through consultation to resolve disputes. He called for win-win cooperation and joint development, reinforcing the importance of mutual benefit in an increasingly interconnected world.
Under the strategic leadership of both countries’ heads of state, Li noted that China-Indonesia relations have reached new heights in recent years. Bilateral trade has expanded significantly, two-way investments have surged, and flagship infrastructure projects have yielded impressive results, delivering substantial benefits to businesses and citizens in both countries.
The Chinese Premier also underscored China’s strong economic momentum in the face of global headwinds, citing robust internal growth drivers and vast development potential. He pointed to China’s domestic demand expansion strategies, ongoing technological breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, robotics, and biopharmaceuticals, and the nation’s commitment to green, high-end, and intelligent industrial upgrades.
“China is ready to share its growth opportunities with the world, including Indonesia,” Li affirmed. He reiterated China’s commitment to high-standard opening-up and to creating a more favorable environment for foreign businesses.
Premier Li expressed hope that business communities from both countries would further strengthen cooperation and actively contribute to deepening bilateral ties across economic, industrial, scientific, and cultural fields.
Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto, in his remarks, echoed Premier Li’s sentiments, describing the China-Indonesia relationship as one of the most strategic and promising bilateral partnerships in the 21st century.
“Indonesia stands ready to enhance cooperation with China in economy, trade, green energy, science, and education,” Prabowo said. He welcomed continued Chinese investment and called for broader cooperation to achieve mutual prosperity.
Prabowo also lauded China’s influential role in international affairs and pledged Indonesia’s support in upholding the Bandung Spirit. “Together, we will strive to maintain peace, stability, and prosperity in Asia, defend the interests of developing countries, and uphold international fairness and justice,” he stated.
Prior to the business reception, Premier Li and President-elect Prabowo jointly visited a commemorative exhibition marking the 70th anniversary of the Bandung Conference, as well as an exhibition showcasing the achievements of China-Indonesia economic and trade cooperation.
