ADB Announces $1 Million Solar Energy Project and Sustainable Development Support for Arkadag

Arkadag, May 26, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced its commitment to supporting the development of the city of Arkadag with a $1 million solar energy storage project. This initiative is part of ADB’s broader efforts to promote sustainable energy solutions and infrastructure modernization in Turkmenistan. The announcement was made by Arthur Andrysiak, the bank’s Country Director in Turkmenistan, during a session focused on sustainable development at the International Forum “White City Ashgabat,” held on May 24–25 in Ashgabat.

According to Andrysiak, the ADB is actively involved in several investment projects across Turkmenistan. To date, one project has been completed, while two others are currently underway. ADB’s strategy in the region includes sovereign financing, the development of advisory services, and integrated solutions designed to promote sustainability and green growth.

In particular, the bank has placed significant emphasis on renewable energy projects, with a focus on solar energy. ADB has extensive experience in implementing solar initiatives and has supported pilot projects aimed at increasing the adoption of solar energy in Turkmenistan. Additionally, ADB is involved in programs focused on sustainable water resource management, promoting the efficient use and storage of water resources.

These efforts are aligned with ADB’s broader strategy to enhance infrastructure resilience and foster green growth throughout the region. On May 17, 2025, the State Committee for the Construction of the City of Arkadag, under the President of Turkmenistan, and ADB signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Arkadag, further solidifying their collaboration on these important projects.
