President of Turkmenistan Participates in Inaugural Central Asia–Italy Summit in Astana

Astana, May 30, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in the inaugural Central Asia–Italy Summit held on Friday in the Kazakh capital, Astana, according to Turkmenistan’s state news agency.

The high-level gathering marked a significant step forward in strengthening ties between Italy and the nations of Central Asia, a region recognized for its vast natural resources and strategic geopolitical significance. The summit aimed to deepen cooperation in a range of sectors, including economy, energy, infrastructure, and technology.

Italy has consistently maintained stable political and diplomatic relations with Turkmenistan, both on a bilateral level and within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). Rome has notably co-sponsored several UN General Assembly resolutions initiated by Ashgabat, demonstrating its support for Turkmenistan’s international initiatives.

The evolving partnership is viewed as a key mechanism for unlocking the region’s economic and technological potential. Italian expertise in industrial development, energy transition, infrastructure projects, and investment strategies is expected to play a crucial role in this regard.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held bilateral talks with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The meeting, held within the framework of Berdimuhamedov’s official visit to Kazakhstan, underscored the close and cooperative relationship between the two nations, with discussions covering various aspects of bilateral and regional cooperation.
