President of Turkmenistan Meets Italian PM on Sidelines of Central Asia–Italy Summit

Astana, May 31, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni on Friday, on the sidelines of the inaugural Central Asia–Italy Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan, according to Turkmenistan’s state news agency.

The two leaders exchanged warm greetings and expressed mutual confidence that the meeting would contribute to the further strengthening of Turkmen-Italian relations across a broad spectrum of areas.

During the talks, President Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s firm commitment to expanding cooperation with European countries, with particular emphasis on Italy as a key partner. He highlighted the importance of building long-term and mutually beneficial ties based on principles of equality, mutual respect, and shared interest.

The Turkmen President also conveyed cordial greetings and best wishes from the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the People’s Council, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. He recalled with appreciation the positive outcomes and lasting impressions of his official visit to Italy during his tenure as head of state.

The meeting took place in the context of the high-level Central Asia–Italy summit, which convened to explore avenues for enhanced collaboration between Italy and the Central Asian region in various strategic sectors, including trade, energy, infrastructure, and cultural exchange.

Both sides reaffirmed their readiness to deepen political dialogue, promote economic partnerships, and expand cooperation in the humanitarian and educational fields.
